Snake bites are a deadly condition, which most of the women and children of poor households in rural Nepal have to undergo. But this issue is still neglected today. In a country that is agrarian, agricultural laborers, shepherds and fishermen also face a business threat from poisonous snakes. Most deaths and disability due to snake bite can be avoided, but many people lose their lives simply because they do not have the means of first aid. According to the World Health Organization, 20,000 people become victims of snake bite every year in Nepal. Of these, more than 1,000 people die. However, researchers in the field of health say that the actual number is much higher. According to public health experts, most deaths from snakebite should be avoided with snakes lacking awareness. Due to them, these are suitable places to breed snakes. As such, it is common for people in these areas to encounter snakes. Most incidents of snake bite occur in the fields, most of the bites in the house are due to sleeping on the ground. To eliminate snake bites, it is important that public health officials and non-profit organizations first prepare data on snake bite area-wise incidence and snake-species and then consider effective community awareness measures. Our policy-makers must ensure the stock of medicines required for its treatment.
